List of Blues Autobiography Books

Buddy Brew Beer

I just finished reading Buddy Guy’s When I Left Home written by the acclaimed Mr. David Ritz and a thought occurred to me that I want more. Buddy in his autobiography describes the characters of so many beloved Bluesmen in a way that were new and revealing to me. In a way that made things interesting and made me look for more to read on the lives and characters of the great Blues guitar legends of all generations to come. I came up with the thought of listing the literature available about the lives of the greatest Blues artists here for my own To-do list and to recommend it to others.

Hi, do you know any other autobiography by blues women? (apart from Billy Holiday’s “Lady sings the Blues” of course, which you could add to the list). I’m looking for autobiographies by female blues singers, preferably from southern states (for a research project). Thank you! Stephanie
